Introduction to Minnie and Sasha

Hi there and welcome to my Kitty Cat Blog!

Let me start by introducing my two cats.  Minnie is the oldest at 4 years old.  She is a calico and a little overweight...lol.  We have had her since she was 10 weeks old.  We picked Minnie out at the Wyse Road Animal Hospital in Dartmouth.  Sasha is still a kitten - he is just 3 months old.  I don't know what breed he is, but he is completely black, with a little white patch on his chest and white paws. My husband got Sasha from a co-worker when he was just 8 weeks old.

We thought about getting a second cat for a long time, since both my husband and I work alot of hours and thought that Minnie may be lonely.  So when the opportunity arose to get Sasha for free, we jumped at it.  Minnie hadn't had much exposure to other cats, soshe wasn't too happy when Sasha entered the picture.  I had spent alot of time looking online for the best way to "introduce" them.  Most sites advised to keep them apart at first and to introduce them slowly over time.  This method didn't work for us - we found it difficult to keep the kitten isolated (he would cry because he was alone...sob) and we had to maintain 2 litter boxes and 2 separate food stations.  After a few days, a friend told us to let them both loose in the house and they would sort it out themselves.  This has worked for us - well they co-exist, peacefully, for the most part...lol.

As for personalities, they both are pretty different.  Minnie is pretty indifferent to most things these days....she used to love to play with my hair elastics and the little plastic mice.  Now she spends most of her time in her cat house or under the bed.  Once in a while she'll lay on our laps, but not too often.  We make an extra effort to give her love and attention but she doesn't seem to care   :(   Sasha is pretty energetic and affectionate - but that is too be expected since he is still a baby.  It is funny because he hates to be separated from me.  For example, if I am in the bathroom with the door closed, he will sit outside and meow and meow until I come out.  Hopefully he will grow out of that because it drives me bonkers sometimes!

Thanks for taking the time to meet my two kitties.  I will be writing more as they develop.
